Initiatives on Internationalisation and Engagement with Mainland China in the 2012-15 Triennium - Student-initiated Projects

The UGC provided funding to take forward four initiatives on internationalisation and engagement with Mainland China in the 2012-15 triennium. One of the initiatives is the organisation of student-initiated projects to promote internationalisation and encourage multi-cultural integration in institutions. The UGC is pleased that the initiative was met with enthusiasm from the eight UGC-funded institutions and a total of over 90 projects have been organised.

Among eight projects nominated by the institutions, the UGC selected the best student-initiated project to reward excellence. The nominated projects were assessed according to three criteria - (i) integration (the extent to which the project is effective in promoting integration and cultural exchange between local and non-local students); (ii) creativity (the extent to which the project is interesting, creative and appealing to students); and (iii) content (the extent to which the content of the project is intellectual and inspiring with a global perspective).

We are pleased that the "Resonance" project of City University of Hong Kong was selected as the best sector-wide student-initiated project. The UGC was particularly impressed by the thought the organisers put into the activities which generated a diverse, active and sizable group of participants; and that the topics/activities were relevant and dynamic which fostered participation.

The UGC is also glad to note from the feedback of institutions that they generally considered the initiative effective in fostering greater integration among local and non-local students through cooperation, communication and cultural exchange among students in the process of organisation of and participation in the activities. To facilitate sharing among institutions, information regarding the winning project and the other nominated projects are set out.
