Whole-person Development Fund
The UGC established the Whole-person Development Fund (WPDF) with an allocation of $30 million in early 2023 to support the eight UGC-funded universities in pursuing initiatives in the 2022-25 triennium to enrich the learning experience of students outside the classroom, thereby promoting whole-person development of the younger generation.
The WPDF played a vital role in providing additional resources for universities to advance diverse initiatives aligned with holistic development of their students. Students were provided with valuable opportunities to discover their potential, engage with their peers and the community, strengthen their mental health awareness and resilience, as well as embark on a journey of life-long improvement. In view of the positive impact, the UGC has additionally allocated $30 million to the WPDF in the 2025-28 triennium to sustain and enrich the universities’ efforts in nurturing the holistic development of their students.
The WPDF supports the universities in taking forward initiatives in respect of the following four key areas to promote whole-person education:
- cultivating leadership with compassion and empathy through service learning;
- fostering a stronger sense of social responsibility and good citizenship;
- promoting positive education and psychological well-being; and
- stimulating curiosity, creativity and lifelong self-improvement.
