Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education

The UGC announced the launch of the Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education (FITE) with a funding allocation of $100 million in June 2023 to provide an impetus for universities to harness innovative and breakthrough technologies in transforming pedagogies and enriching student learning experiences, and to nurture a digitally competent and technologically responsible generation, for the future success of their students in the digital economy.

To sustain momentum in transformations in the UGC-funded sector, broaden focus beyond generative AI to other emerging technologies, emphasise appropriate mindsets for the new generation, and provide students with practical exposure to evolving career landscape, the FITE will continue to be implemented in the 2026/27 to 2028/29 academic years with an increased allocation of $120 million, including $30 million earmarked for inter-institutional collaborative activities.

The UGC-funded universities may utilise the FITE for different initiatives under the following four key themes:

  1. Driving transformation in pedagogies, curriculum, assessment and student development
  2. Advancing AI and digital competencies for all
  3. Promoting technological social responsibilities and academic integrity
  4. Fostering academia-industry collaboration and real-life learning experience
