Research Grants Council public lecture on cloud computing to be held on Saturday

The Research Grants Council (RGC) will present the first public lecture for this year on Saturday (April 21) at the Hong Kong Science Museum with a theme entitled "Cloud Computing".

The lecture is co-organised with the Hong Kong Science Museum. The RGC has invited Professor David Cheung of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Hong Kong and Professor Lee Wing-bun of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to introduce and share their research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:

Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Science Museum
Language: Cantonese
Free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

Professor Cheung will give a talk entitled "Cloud Computing and its Security". The talk will explain the new computing paradigm, and discuss its impact and different understandings of the technology. Apart from a general introduction, security and privacy issues of cloud computing will also be discussed.

Professor Lee will deliver a lecture entitled "Open Innovation under Cloud Service Environment". The lecture will cover emerging applications of cloud computing as a platform for revolutionising new business and services, and how the cloud computing environment paves the way for open innovation.

Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited to deliver public lectures organised by the RGC. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research development.
