Common English Proficiency Assessment for Graduating University Students

The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

The University Grants Committee (UGC) announced today (November 1) that graduating students of the UGC-funded institutions can start applying for the testing sessions under the Common English Proficiency Assessment (CEPA) scheme.

"We announced the adoption of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as the common English proficiency assessment in July and the testing sessions are now available," a UGC spokesman said.

"Students of undergraduate degree programmes of UGC-funded institutions who graduated in the 2001-02 academic year and those who are graduating in the current academic year may now apply through their home institutions to take the test at a session of their choice. The fees necessary range from $900 to $1,100," he said.

"Students who are graduating in the current academic year will be reimbursed for the test fee if they agree to a cross-reference being made in their transcripts to the fact that they have taken the test," he added.

The testing sessions under the CEPA scheme will be conducted from December this year to May next year. The registration period is from November 1 to 30, 2002. More information about the CEPA scheme can be obtained from the website www.ugccepa.com.
