Institutional Development Scheme (IDS) Collaborative Research Grant 2023/24 Exercise
- The main objective of the Collaborative Research Grant is to enhance the research output of the institutions in terms of the level of attainment, quality, dimensions and / or speed. The overall quality of the proposals dropped as compared to the last round of exercise.
- The topics of some proposals were innovative and interesting, with advanced technology proposed to be incorporated into the research. However, more details and specific explanations should be provided on the research design and project implementation. Project teams should clearly explain how the proposed technology was related to the research context outlined in the proposal. Sustainability of the research projects should also be elaborated.
- While some proposals were able to identify important research problems to be addressed, project teams appeared to be lacking sufficient knowledge on the research fields involved. The methodology and sampling strategies were not well-written. The budget requested was not well-justified. Project teams were advised to obtain preliminary data to prove the concept of the proposed study.
- For cross-disciplinary proposals, suitable experts and stakeholders of the respective research fields should be engaged to contribute to the project to make the proposed research successful. Cross-institutional collaboration was also encouraged.
