Professor SHEK Chan-hung received his BSc (Hons) in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) and PhD from The University of Hong Kong. He is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Associate Dean of College of Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He was Director of the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education of CityU from 2016 to 2021, during which he was responsible for the university-wide Gateway Education programme, staff development programmes on teaching and learning, as well as providing support to students relating to innovation and entrepreneurship. Professor Shek was also appointed concurrently as Acting Head of the then newly set up Department of Materials Science and Engineering of CityU from 2018-2019.

Professor Shek's research interests are on microstructure and properties of bulk amorphous alloys, high entropy alloys, nanocrystalline ceramic and other metallic alloys. He co-authored over 220 research papers in international refereed journals and six book chapters. He is a co-inventor of one patent of the United States and two patents of the People's Republic of China. Professor Shek has been working as a technical expert for laboratory accreditation run by the Hong Kong Accreditation Services for over 15 years. He also provides consultancy services to the industries and has served as an expert witness in court cases in Hong Kong.
