Neil SAMMELLS

Professor Neil Sammells is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of Bath Spa University, where he is also a Professor of English and Irish Literature. He has a BA (Hons) from University of Oxford and a PhD from University College London. He has written extensively on English and Irish Literature, including monographs on Tom Stoppard and Oscar Wilde. He is also the founding editor of the international, peer-reviewed journal Irish Studies Review. At various times he has held top-level institutional responsibilities for learning and teaching, research, student support, marketing and recruitment, and quality assurance at Bath Spa University.

Professor Sammells is an experienced institutional auditor, having worked for the United Kingdom (UK)'s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) as a member of audit teams for reviews of the universities including University of Exeter, University of Warwick, University of Leicester and De Montfort University. He has also worked as a quality consultant at a number of other UK universities, such as University College London, Staffordshire University and Solent University, Southampton. He has considerable international experience as an institutional auditor, having performed that role for the QAA's equivalent in the Republic of Ireland and Lithuania. He was, for several years, a member of the awarding panel for the UK's National Teaching Fellowship.
