Professor Ann Holmes has held senior management posts at Manchester Metropolitan University as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, and Quality Assurance and Enhancement as well as the Executive Dean. Latterly she was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at University of Wolverhampton where she had responsibility for quality assurance and enhancement, learning and teaching, student experience and leading and managing change. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Professor Holmes has worked as an auditor/reviewer at the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) since 2002. She has undertaken all types of institutional and collaborative review, taught degree awarding powers and foundation degree awarding powers, and overseas review in Greece and Singapore. She has also sat on QAA appeal panels and reading panels, as well as contributing to a range of projects, such as reviewing sections of the Quality Code and grade inflation.

Professor Holmes is currently a member of the Academic Quality and Standards Committee at University of Gibraltar and chairs programme validation events for them. She is also the external member of Programme Scrutiny Committee at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is the external member on the University of Westminster's Teaching Committee and has recently undertaken a major review of their degree outcomes. She has recently ended her tenure as an external member of the Academic Board and Learning and Teaching Committee at Arden University and as an external examiner at University of East Anglia.

As a consultant, Professor Holmes specialises in supporting institutions, both public and private, through their preparation for review as well as undertaking review and evaluation of university policies and processes and advising on academic governance.
