Whilst the Government's policy sets out the way in which the Government determines the provision of publicly-funded hostel places, the actual allocation of hostels places to students is a matter within institutional autonomy. Each UGC-funded university has devised its own set of admission and allocation criteria in response to its unique circumstances.
