Professor and Provost Emerita

Dr Nancy Marlin currently serves as Professor of Psychology and holds the title of Provost Emerita at San Diego State University. She previously held administrative and faculty positions at the University of Missouri and the University of Northern Iowa. She received a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from The City University of New York and has been awarded an Honorary Master's of Business Administration from the Universidad de Valparaíso (Chile), and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from California Western School of Law.

Dr Marlin has been involved in quality assurance throughout her career. She has been a member of site visit teams for regional accreditors, previously the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and currently for the Western Association (WASC Senior), as well as for the professional accreditor, the American Bar Association (ABA) Section on Legal Education. From a decision-making and policy perspective regarding quality assurance, Dr. Marlin is a member of the Board of Directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and of the ABA's Accreditation Committee.

Dr Marlin has also served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), the National Conflict Resolution Center, the Board of Trustees of the California Western School of Law, the Board of Governors for San Diego's International Community Foundation and as a member of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Higher Education Advisory Board.

Dr Marlin was the elected Chair of ALPU's Council on Academic Affairs and was the recipient of APLU's Malone Award for International Leadership. She received the San Diego Business Journal's award for Women Who Mean Business and a United States-India Foundation grant for the India International Education Administrators Seminar. She is a member of Mortar Board, Golden Key, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa, and recently received the San Diego Mortar Board's Distinguished Alumna Award.
