LINGNAN UNIVERSITY
Following the successful Institutional Review of Lingnan
College in January 1998, which ascertained that the College was ready
for institutional accreditation, the UGC recommended to the Government
in June 1998 that the College be granted self-accrediting status.
In September 1998, the Government approved the award of self-accrediting status to Lingnan College, subject to periodic reviews of its quality assurance processes to be undertaken by the UGC, like the other institutions under the UGC's purview.
The Lingnan Ordinance was passed by the Legislative Council in July 1999, and Lingnan College was renamed Lingnan University with effect from 30 July 1999.
