The work of the University Grants Committee during this busy period has been greatly facilitated by the help and cooperation the Committee has received from many people and organisations, too numerous to list in detail, both within and ouside the Government and in the UGC-funded institutions.

The Committee wishes, however, to record its particular appreciation for the support and assistance of the two Secretaries for Education & Manpower during the period covered by this report, Mr John C C Chan LVO OBE JP and Mr Michael M K Leung CBE JP, and their staff.

The Committee also wishes to thank the Council Chairmen and Heads of the seven UGC- funded institutions for their continuing support for the Committee' work.

The Committee would like to record its appreciation for the contributions made by all past members of the UGC and its Sub-Committees, and most particularly for the enormous contribution made by the former Chairman, the Hon Andrew K N Li CBE QC JP who retired from the UGC in March 1993 after more than 7 years of service on the Committee as member (from 1979 to 1986), as Deputy Chairman (from April 1988 to December 1988) and as Chairman (from January 1989 to March 1993).

Finally, the Chairmen and members of the UGC and its Sub-Committees, and the RGC and its Sub-Committees and Panels, wish to record their thanks to Mr Nigel J French, JP, the Secretary-General UGC throughout the period covered by this report, and his staff for their excellent service and efficient support at all times.
