The document University Grants Committee Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 1999 Guidance Notes, dated 22 January 1999, lays down the basic philosophy and principles of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), as well as guidance to institutions and to those who had to submit research output items for assessment. These supplementary guidelines are addressed to Panel Members, who are charged with evaluating the submissions.
