The eight institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) have today (24 June 1998) informed me that they share the Government's concern and support the special relief measures to boost the economy, and will apply the same freeze to the pay of their senior staff at directorate grade D3 and above, or equivalent.

The total number of staff affected by this measure in the eight UGC-funded institutions is about 150 and the estimated amount of savings accruing as a result of this measure in 1998-99 will be some $16 million.
