How does the UGC support the institutions to pursue internationalization? |
 |
 |
- The UGC implemented a Matching Grant
Scheme for Internationalization since
2005/06 by providing $40 million for its
eight-funded institutions on a $1-to-$1
matching basis to promote internationalization.
Institutions have used the resources allocated
in various initiatives relevant to promote
internationalization, including hiring
of staff to organize promotional activities
(such as roadshows) and recruit non-local
students; participating in overseas educational
conferences; and providing support services
for non-local students.
- The "Aspirations for the Higher Education System in Hong Kong" report recommended that the number and variety of overseas study opportunities for local students should be increased significantly. To this end, the UGC has extended the Matching Grant Scheme for Internationalization by providing a further one-off $50 million on a matching basis. The grants will be given to the eight funded-institutions according to their undergraduate student numbers. Institutions can use the matching grants for up to three years' time to provide more overseas exchange opportunities for local students, so as to encourage them to "go out" and broaden their horizons.
