The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) has been in place for some 17 years. Is there a need to review it?
  • The UGC has decided that a new Research Assessment Exercise will be necessary to sharpen the measurement of research inputs and outputs to form the basis to inform the distribution of the Research element of the Block Grant. The UGC will consult the institutions on this matter after it has considered the broad framework for the next Research Assessment Exercise. Given the need for institutions to focus on the implementation of 3+3+4 and the need to review the future mode of assessment, the earliest opportunity to conduct another Research Assessment Exercise is 2014.
