Will the UGC consider dividing the academic staff of institutions into teaching-oriented staff and research-oriented staff, and lowering the publication requirements of teaching-oriented staff so that they may focus their efforts on teaching work?
  • The UGC considers that teaching and research are complementary to each other, and cannot be separated. Teaching staff in institutions have to participate in research activities in order to teach their students cutting edge knowledge of their fields, to show them the likely direction, to cultivate their interest in research and to encourage them to acquire new ideas by themselves.

  • The above said the UGC has no "publication requirements" at all. It is up to institutions to decide the content of teaching and research individual staff members should take on.
