How does the UGC support research on the UGC-funded institutions?
  • In addition to the research element of the block grants, the UGC also provides funding support for research through : an earmarked allocation to the RGC of about $770 million per year; provision of research postgraduate places, which will increase from 4765 to 5595 over the course of the triennium, at an annual cost of about $1.4 billion; the Areas of Excellence Scheme of about $80 million per year; the Theme-based Research Scheme of up to about $200 million per year starting from 2011/12; and specific funding for knowledge transfer activities of $50 million per year.
