In order to promote outcome-based approaches in student learning among institutions, the Task Force on Outcome-based Approaches in Student Learning (OBATF) is organising a symposium on "outcomes". It is expected that the event can give institutions an insight of "outcomes" and encourage them to give strategic consideration to this subject. It also helps promote outcome-based approach in student learning to front line teaching staff and students through the sharing of experience with renowned international and local academics.

Academic and administrative staff members of the eight UGC-funded institutions are cordially invited to participate in the Symposium.

Recently and internationally, there is an increasing interest in student learning outcomes. The UGC believes that its funded institutions should be encouraged to consider adopting outcome-based approaches to judge whether the processes and deployment of resources are effective in enabling students to achieve the intended student learning outcomes. Placing the emphasis on learning outcomes helps institutions focus their education effort on achieving its goal, with a view to leading to better teaching and learning.

UGC is facilitating institutions in moving forward by building up their capacities and providing support. An inter-institutional task force was set up in 2007. It comprises two representatives from each funded institutions and two UGC Members, i.e. OBATF, and provided additional funds to its funded institutions to take forward the initiative. The OBATF has held four meetings since its establishment.
