UGC Chairman expresses condolences on passing of Dr Marvin Cheung

The University Grants Committee (UGC) Chairman, Mr Edward Cheng, expressed his deep condolences today (September 15) on the passing of Dr Marvin Cheung, Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

"Dr Cheung was an inspirational leader in Hong Kong's higher education community. He will be greatly missed by all of us. He set high standards, which many in Hong Kong have always tried to emulate. On behalf of the UGC, both past and present members join with me in expressing deep sadness at his passing. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. On a personal level I have lost a much valued colleague, mentor and friend," Mr Cheng said.

Dr Cheung also contributed significantly to the higher education in Hong Kong in other capacities, including as a member of the Council of the Open University of Hong Kong.
