UGC's clarification on the offering of PCLL places

"In response to some press reporting that the University Grants Committee (UGC) would reduce the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) places for the University of Hong Kong (HKU) by 30% starting from 2004/2005, the UGC Secretariat clarified that the number of UGC-funded PCLL places for HKU would be maintained at the same level in 2004/2005 as in 2003/04. The intake for PCLL for HKU in 2003/2004 approved in the context of the 2001-2004 triennial planning exercise is 117. Subject to the approval of the legislature on the recurrent grants for 2004/2005, the number of PCLL places for HKU will be maintained at 117 in 2004/2005.

We understand from the HKU that it has increased intake for PCLL programme from 117 to 170 in 2003/2004 using its own resources."
