Research Assessment Exercise Group (RAEG)

Terms of Reference

The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Group is established under the Research Group (RG) to –
  1. take forward RAE 2026, and, through RG, advise UGC on non-funding matters relating to the RAE. In so doing, the Group will have regard to the objectives, principles and framework agreed by UGC, and seek steer, where appropriate, from RG on matters relating to research strategy and research policy;

  2. oversee the implementation and provide guidance on the management and operation of RAE 2026, including the consultation, submission and assessment guidelines and process, panel formation, development/enhancement of the RAE electronic system, etc.;

  3. having regard to the international trend in research assessment and views collected from universities during the RAE 2026 consultations, provide views on the way to conduct research assessment in Hong Kong in the future; and

  4. report the RAE progress and results to the RG and UGC.
