Selection Process

The RGC follows the international practice and has adopted a peer review mechanism to assess research proposals. In selecting proposals for funding, academic quality is the prime consideration of the RGC.

The RGC is supported by assessment committees/panels in the assessment of research proposals. All the RGC assessment committee/panel members (both local and non-local) are appointed in their personal capacities. The RGC has also formulated a Code of Conduct for members’ reference. All assessment committee/panel members need to declare interest. They are barred from assessing research proposals in which they have declared interest.

Research proposals are assigned by the committee/panel chairmen to committee/panel members who will invite external reviewers. The RGC will ensure that each proposal receives at least two independent reviews for individual research schemes or three independent reviews for group research schemes.
