Professor Chan Lung-sang, Deputy Director of HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, is currently Principal of HKU SPACE Community College and HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College, as well as professor in Department of Earth Sciences at HKU. He received his bachelor degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and his Masters and PhD in geology and geophysics from University of California-Berkeley. He had taught geology at the University of Wisconsin for 10 years before he joined The University of Hong Kong in 1994. His research interests include the tectonics and geology of South China and geophysics. Over the years, he authored and co-authored about 50 journal papers on various earth science research topics and education issues.

Professor Chan served as the Associate Dean of Science in 2002-2007 and as Chair of the Board of the Science Faculty during 2009-2013. He has been actively promoting science education in Hong Kong. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors of The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education. He chaired the Geological Society for the period 2001-2005 and was invited to be a guest host in several television documentaries on earth science subjects. In addition to the University Teaching Fellowship in 2004 and Faculty Service Award in 2007, he was bestowed the first University Distinguished Teaching Award by The University of Hong Kong in 2010. He served on HKU's Steering Committee on Academic Reform, UGC Outcomes-based Learning Task Force, and as scientific advisor of Hong Kong Observatory.

Professor Chan's industrial experience includes over twenty consultancy projects on applications of geophysical techniques to environmental and engineering site investigations, geological studies of cladding stones and the development of the infrared thermographic method for screening febrile passengers at border crossings.
