Emeritus Professor Sandra Vianne McLean A.M. has had an extensive career in universities both in Australia and the USA. Positions have included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching Quality) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane Australia. At QUT, she was also Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education from 2000 to 2006, and in the USA, was Associate Vice-Provost (Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies) at Arizona State University West from 1997 to 2000.

Professor McLean has had a longstanding interest in academic quality assurance and served as an honorary auditor for the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) from 2001 to 2010, during which time she chaired many audit panels for Australian universities. Since retiring from full time work in 2009, she has continued this work both in Australia and overseas. She is currently active in accreditation reviews of universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Hong Kong. She has served as a quality consultant for universities and university regulators in Papua New Guinea and the Maldives. She also acts as a reviewer for competitive grants and awards offered by the Office of Learning and Teaching, an agency set up by the Australian Government to enhance learning and teaching in universities.

Professor McLean has chaired the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board of Queensland since 2009, and in 2009 was made a Member of the Order of Australia - a prestigious national award for her longstanding services to Australian education and higher education.
