Susan BRIDGES

Dr Susan Bridges is the Director of the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She graduated with a BA and DipEd in History, English and German from The University of Queensland and a Grad Cert (TESOL), MA (AppLing) and EdD in International Higher Education from Griffith University in Australia. She taught and held management roles in secondary schools in Australia and Hong Kong before moving into higher education, initially as a Research Fellow, before joining HKU's Faculty of Dentistry in 2007 as an Assistant Professor and later the Assistant Dean (Curriculum Innovation). In 2013, she joined the Faculty of Education/CETL to serve as the Assistant Dean (Learning & Teaching). In 2014, she was appointed as an Adjunct Professor to the Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education at the Australian Catholic University. As an award-winning teacher, researcher and curriculum designer, Dr Bridges is passionate about her field. Her work is inherently interdisciplinary and she leads and supports a range of curriculum and faculty development projects. Her higher education initiatives focus on professional education, particularly integrated curriculum designs and inquiry-based learning and how educational technologies can support and enhance these. In 2016, she was invited to join the Universitas21 Steering Group for the Educational Innovation Cluster to support network-wide innovation and served this group for two terms. Her Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government- and internationally-funded research explores the 'how' of effective pedagogy and communication through interactional and ethnographic approaches.

Dr Bridges is an Associate Editor for the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning and the Chair of the Problem-based Education Special Interest Group for the American Educational Research Association. She serves as a finalist judge for the QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards.
