Sean McMINN

Dr Sean McMinn is the Director of the Center for Education Innovation at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Prior to this role, he was an Associate Professor and the Director of the English Language Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2020-2022. He was previously an Associate Professor of Language Education and an Associate Director in the Center for Language Education and the Co-Academic Director for the Master of Arts in International Language Education program at HKUST.

Dr McMinn has taught students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for nearly 20 years at universities in Macau and Hong Kong. Since coming to Hong Kong in 2005, he has taught courses on Business Communications, Journalism, English for Academic Purposes, Social Complex Systems, Multi-Modal Communications, Digital Literacies and Technology-enhanced Language Teaching and Learning. He won the 2016 School of Humanities and Social Science Teaching Excellence Award and the 2007 Teaching Innovation Award at HKUST for his work with podcasts and education.

Dr McMinn is an early-adopter of new technologies for teaching and learning purposes, including developing blended learning and fully-online mode for teaching and learning. He has led a UGC-funded project in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong, which aimed to provide opportunities and resources for both teachers and learners of English to develop digital (multimodal) communication skills.
